TRUSTe Expands Executive Team with Addition of Privacy and Security Industry Veterans Focusing on Regulatory Affairs and Business Development
Cathy Bump Joins as Vice President of Policy & Legal and David Currie Named Vice President of Business Development
San Francisco, CA – October 4, 2004 - TRUSTe, the leading online privacy certification and seal program, today announced that it has hired Cathy Bump as vice president of policy & legal and David Currie as vice president of business development. The new executives join TRUSTe as it continues to strengthen its influence on federal and state online consumer privacy policy and increase organizational expertise in security and technology.
Bump joins TRUSTe from Intuit where she served as in-house privacy counsel for the financial software and Internet company, which has 28 consumer-facing Web sites. At Intuit, Bump managed compliance with all privacy and data security-related laws, and also shaped internal and external positions on privacy and direct marketing issues and legislation.
Bump also specializes in privacy and data security issues. She has particular expertise in financial privacy including the Gramm Leach Bliley Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions (FACT) Act.
Bump has dealt extensively with e-mail-related issues and the CAN-SPAM Act and her public policy experience includes working with the Federal Trade Commission on compliance issues and participating in numerous federal rulemaking processes. Bump holds a J.D. from Hastings College of the Law and a B.A. in political science from Stanford University.
Currie brings to TRUSTe more than 17 years of technology industry experience, including senior positions at ScanAlert, MeetWorldTrade, Neopost, ADP and Oracle.Currie held the position of co-founder and chairman of ScanAlert, a company that provides third-party security protection against hackers. He was also co-founder of Etera Systems, the first business application service provider in the U.S., Currie served as COO until its acquisition by Corio (NASDAQ:CRIO). In his role as CTO of MeetWorldTrade, he led the creation of a successful, award winning secure international trading marketplace with collaboration, negotiation and transaction facilities. As CIO of Neopost, Currie was responsible for ensuring the security of U.S. Postal Service electronic money used to automatically refill postage meters. Currie holds a BA from San Francisco State University.
