Privacy Training and Awareness: Keeping Employees in the Loop

The Privacy Council of Sovereign Bank, which is made up of representatives from various business units, works to help employees keep privacy in mind. The council conducts training sessions for new employees, keeps staff abreast of privacy issues, maintains an Intranet site, and helps craft customer communication strategies. The Privacy Council’s motto is “It’s all about respect” -- respect for customers, that is.

TRUSTe Files Comment on COPPA Rule With Federal Trade Commission

On April 19, 2005, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) invited comment on its implementation of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) through the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule. TRUSTe recently filed comments stating that we believe that the COPPA Rule is working well and recommending that the FTC strengthen the safe harbor provisions of the rule.

MSN Hotmail Takes Next Step With Email Authentication

The Sender ID Check program, an email authentication framework developed to fight spam, domain spoofing, and phishing, allows domains to register their SPF records. This week, MSN Hotmail plans to take the Sender ID Check program one step further by warning customers when they receive mail whose email authentication the Sender ID Check can not verify. Bonded Sender Reports Increasing Email Deliverability by Nearly 21 Percent

Return Path recently released results of a study indicating its Bonded Sender Program, which serves as a whitelist, increases email deliverability rates by an average of 20.6 percent. Currently, more than 35,000 domains representing more than 250 million email inboxes use Bonded Sender. TRUSTe provides certification, third-party oversight, and dispute resolution services to the program. More...
