
Chris Babel
Chief Executive Officer
Chris Babel is the CEO of TRUSTe, the leading trustmark and recognized authority on Internet trust and privacy. Chris possesses over a decade of experience building online trust, most recently as Senior Vice President and General Manager of VeriSign’s worldwide Authentication Services business, where he was responsible for strategy, sales, marketing, product and support.
Chris also previously managed VeriSign’s SSL and Managed Security Services business. In these roles he helped grow the businesses though the launch of new products to enterprise and small/medium businesses, international expansion in EMEA and Asia and through acquisition and integration of a number of companies. Chris also spent time in Corporate Development and as Chief of Staff to the CEO where he led strategic planning and execution of over 20 acquisitions.
Prior to joining VeriSign, Chris served as an Associate in Morgan Stanley’s Technology Mergers and Acquisitions group and its Corporate Finance group working on transactions like Netscape's sale to AOL.
Chris holds a BA in Mathematical Methods in the Social Sciences and Economics with Highest Distinction from Northwestern University and lives with his wife and three sons in San Francisco.

Fran Maier
President and Executive Chair
Fran Maier is the President and Executive Chair of the Board of TRUSTe. Fran brings over 15 years of experience building consumer brands and enhancing consumer trust online. In her role as President, Fran’s operational responsibilities include oversight of Marketing and Policy functions.
Since Fran joined TRUSTe in 2001, the company has grown to certify more than 3000 web sites, including Microsoft, eBay, Facebook, Apple, the NFL, and AT&T. Under her leadership, TRUSTe has expanded its services, as well as market and brand presence.
In 2008, she led TRUSTe’s board and management through the transition from non-profit industry association to for-profit, raising significant capital from Accel Partners. Since that time TRUSTe has introduced new products aimed at the Small and Medium sized business market, entered into new distribution relationships, and expanded its technology capabilities for enhanced scanning and monitoring.
As a co-founder of Match.com, she established credibility, safety, and trust in online dating, making Match.com the leading online dating service. In executive marketing roles at Women.com and Kmart’s BlueLight.com subsidiary, Fran both established new start-up online brands and brought blue-chip offline brands onto the Internet.
Fran speaks widely on the issues of privacy, security, and trust. She’s appeared before the Federal Trade Commission and the US Department of Commerce, and testified before the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade, and Consumer Protection.
She holds a BA and MBA from Stanford University and lives in Alameda, CA with her husband and two sons. In 2009, Fran won a Stevie Award for Women in Business for Best Executive in the category of Service Businesses with less than 100 employees.
Maureen Cooney
Chief Privacy Officer and Vice President for Public Policy
Maureen has distinguished herself in the industry through decades of work in both the public and private sectors. Most notably, she headed the Privacy Office at the Department of Homeland Security, serving as the highest-ranking privacy official in the United States Government. In this position, she testified on many occasions before Congress and is often sought out by both government and businesses on privacy and information-security policy and operational issues. Before that, Maureen served in legal, risk-management, and privacy policy positions in the government, giving her broad knowledge of domestic and international financial services, consumer protection and national security issues. In the private sector, she practiced law, served as a senior advisor at the Center for Information Policy Leadership (affiliated with Hunton & Williams), and consulted on privacy management issues as a principal of The Federal Group, a business consulting and government relations firm in Washington, D.C.
Maureen was recognized as one of the "top 25 privacy experts" in her field by ComputerWorld Magazine in their most recent annual survey of Fortune-ranked companies, and has been noted by USA Chambers 2008 as a leader in the field of privacy law. She is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP), including Government privacy certification with the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
Joan Pashon
Chief of Administration
Joan is responsible for TRUSTe's financial affairs and human relations. Previously she was director of finance and administration at BrightMail and Bluelight. Before that, she held various positions with Amfac and WorldCom, leaving as assistant controller. Joan has a BA in Business Administration from Grand View College.

Iain Mulholland
Chief Technical Officer and Vice President, Engineering
Prior to TRUSTe Iain was the CEO and co-founder of Haute Secure, a leader in the content reputation and malware detection spaces, which TRUSTe acquired in early 2009. Previously, Iain was the security strategist and manager of the Microsoft Security Response Center, and the architect behind both Microsoft's industry-leading monthly security bulletin and the company's patch-release process often referred to as "Patch Tuesday." Before joining Microsoft, Iain was a consultant in the defense and government sectors with a focus on secure systems architecture both in the United Kingdom and Australia. Iain served seven years as an officer in the Commando Forces of the British Armed Services, latterly in the Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) domain. Iain is a graduate of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, England.
James Arra
Vice President of Sales
James brings more than 20 years of high-tech sales experience to TRUSTe. Throughout his career, James has proven his ability to accelerate revenue growth at startup and pre-IPO companies. He’s held sales leadership positions at early-stage companies including Vontu (acquired by Symantec), Rearden Commerce and FreeMarkets (IPO and subsequently merged with Ariba).
Prior to joining TRUSTe, James led the Worldwide Territory and Channel sales teams at Vontu, where his teams grew Vontu’s SMB business more than 300% over a two-year period. Prior to Vontu, James was VP and General Manager of the High-Tech, Oil & Gas, and Retail Business Groups at FreeMarkets. James joined FreeMarkets pre-IPO and contributed to the company’s growth from $16M to more than $180M. James holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and a minor in Quantitative Economics and Decision Theory.
John P. Tomaszewski
General Counsel
As TRUSTe's General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, John is responsible for all of TRUSTe's legal affairs and for providing legal and business counsel to the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors. He also ensures that the organization's online safety programs are built on a strong legal framework. John makes certain that TRUSTe's enforcement and compliance efforts are thorough, transparent, and defensible.
Prior to joining TRUSTe, John served as Chief Privacy Officer of CheckFree Corporation (now Fiserv) and has provided advice to companies on secure eCommerce while in private practice. He frequently lectures on secure e-commerce and public key infrastructure (PKI). John graduated from St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas, where he was the solicitations editor of the Law Journal. He completed his undergraduate work at the University of Texas, Austin.
