TRUSTe Congratulates IBM on APEC Certification

TRUSTe congratulates IBM on the milestone achievement of being the first company to certify their data transfer practices with TRUSTe under the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Cross Border Privacy Rules (CPBR) system. One of the certification requirements is to have an Accountability Agent to certify compliance with the CBPRs. TRUSTe as the first Accountability Agent for APEC’s privacy framework, worked closely with IBM to ensure both online and offline data collection points were in compliance with the CBPR system.  TRUSTe will monitor ongoing compliance and deliver consultative services throughout the partnership. The 5th Annual Most Trusted Companies for Privacy Survey Results Announced!

American Express ranked as the #1 Most Trusted Company for 2008 for Privacy, retaining its place from last year despite the current financial climate. Rounding out the top five are; eBay, IBM, Amazon, and Johnson & Johnson. The technology sector also showed marked improvement as eBay, Apple, Yahoo, Microsoft, and HP all bettered previous rankings. Also of note, Facebook moved into the top 20 for the first time, signifying an increased trust in social networking as a mainstream communications tool.
